The Princess Amelia Chapter, FL34, National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century, held its organizing meeting on October 19, 2014, at the beautiful beachfront home of Organizing President, Dianne Parfitt. Ten of the fifteen organizing members were in attendance: Lisa Bauer, Patricia Baker, Judith Bouchard, Linda Davis, Anita Lay, Lynn Leisy, Jean Mann, Georgia Murray, Dianne Parfitt and Faith Varrasse along with prospective member Elizabeth Millen. Three names were suggested for the new chapter: Princess Amelia, Ile de Mar and Isla de Santa Maria, each name having represented an important aspect of the history of the island on which the new chapter is located. The consensus for first choice was Princess Amelia, the daughter of King George II. General James Oglethorpe re-named the island in her honor in 1735. Members were delighted to have their first choice approved by the National Society President, Frances "Fran" Harrington Davis and National Society Organizing Secretary General, Anna Marie Lee.
The Chapter was chartered at a ceremonial meeting held at 12:00 p.m., March 7, 2015, at the Amelia Island Club on Amelia Island Plantation with twenty-three members present. The ceremony was highlighted by the key note speaker, Florida Society President, Martha Finenco-Wilson and it was an honor to have the Florida Society President to install the newly elected officers. Also in attendance were Florida Society officers, Jean Dixon-Mann, Florida Society Recording Secretary and Sue Chenault-Bratton, Florida Society Organizing Secretary.
